Geez it was windy yesterday. Just had to take the kite out. It was a solid 20knots, gusting up to 40ish knots. Its not a good site to see trees down on roads when you arre on your way to go kiting. When i got the field I could see a guy on a buggy. I was very pleased as this is the first Kiter I had met at this field and because there is someone else out there stupid enough to fly in those conditions.
He (dave) was tearing around in the buggy using a 2m blade II and i was on the ATB with a 2.1 Little Devil. Dave has a speedo on his buggy. He nearly hit 50kph yesterday with a 2m kite! At times we were both totally overpowered. There were some good crashes... sometimes kites were just pulled out of our hands, I was smart enough not to use a harness. Neither of us are light weights and we both managed to get lifted by 2m kites...
It was an insane day! I wouldn't recommend flying in those conditions without wearing ALL of the safety gear. I know it was kinda silly to go out yesterday but boy was it fun.

Speaking of yesterday, wasnt there a kite fly day over in geelong. How did that go?? did it rain over there like it did on this side of the bay.
I wanted to go but I had a saxophone concert and it was raining
I briefly flew my 2.5 bullet down at Queenscliff yesterday and lets just say it was 'interesting'. At one point with the kite parked overhead I was picked and up dumped 5 meters down the beach and then dragged on my face for another 20. Never been over-powered quite like that before on such a small kite. I also suffered a pretty nasty line cut on my finger in all the excitment. At that point I decided to go for a beer instead.

HI Schmik
yep was just watching the weather report only minutes ago on TV. Wind in some parts of NSW up to 140 klms per hr. Hmmm interesting indeed.

The Geelong day was a wash-out. It rained until 1pm at least (about the time I got up), but the flying feild would have been muddy as. Also it was gusting over 30knots, so decided to stay inside. This is now the 4th event in a row that the club has organised which either has had no wind or rain.
Last winter (2002) I think all but one race day over winter was great. Ah well, gotta have bad luck sometime.
I've only flown down at Queenscliff since being in Sydney ( for 5 months ) and that's only with the Bullet 2.5. I have just got myself a BIII 4.9 ( the last one in stock at Kite Power ) and am itching to give it a go. There's no way I'm going to take it any where near Manly, so any suggestions of good UN-CROWDED areas in the Sydney area would be appreciated. A beach would be preferable, I've heard Palm Beach is'nt a bad spot? I've surfed the close-outs that pass for waves up there, but wasn't really looking at the kiteing potential of the place.

Palm is OK. It really depends on the wind direction. The beach is quite narrow in spots but it doesn't get that crowded. The beach gets a bit wider right up the north end.
Long reaf (the north end of Dee Why) can be ok too. This can get a bit crowded but would be fine at this time of year.
I also posted a spot on this site. "George Kendal riverside park". Its not a beach but has pretty clean winds for an inland spot.
There is also "macquarie fields" in Marsfield but i only fly there coz its close to home. Gusty is an understatement when describing this spot. Its for the brave and stupid!
BTW, you can mail me at mik_kat@tpg.com.au if you want to fly. I am now in touch with a guy with a buggy so if you want to try a buggy or ATB drop me a line.
