0304 Victorian Kitetraction Series has now been completed. We ran 6 events in all, with 27 competitors entering the series. Thanks to everyone who attended.

For the first time, we had more Landboarders than any of the buggy categories, and the event even implemented a small freestyle section.

The Open Buggy was hotly contested, with competitors flying the latest Libre, Ozone and Airea Kites. The Landboarding is getting interesting now too, with Justin Schulz on the G-10 Arc untouchable in the final race, but still not enough to take out the series. Contgratulations to Nigel for winning the Open section.

Full results, and pics are now online, where you can view pics and results for all the rounds.

I think a round of applause is in order for Goshen and all others who helped organise events. I had a great time and I am sure everyone else did too.

Justin if you wait two to three months you may be able to get your hands on a phantom arc http://www.peterlynnkiteboarding.com/phantom.html

Yes, many thanks to all who helped out, including the sponsors, and also all the other kiters who turned up the the great events we had.
I know that I had a good time, but then winning does that to you. :D
The Libre Bora that I had was not the latest one, as there is a mark 2 Bora on the way. The little 2.5 I had out later in the day was the mark 2.
They are going through the range and improving them.
One question that I have is under our "friendly rules" there is no mention about not having kevlar lines??
I have taken great note that the new Nitros have kevlar bridles???
From a personal point of view I think it quite strange that a company would use unsleved kevlar on a bridle???
It suffers from the UV light damaging it and it goes fury over time (rubbing each other) reducing its aero performance.
Both of these problems could be fixxed by sleving the kevlar????
I am not a kite designer nor claim to be up to date on the latest materials, but a number of kite books have stressed the importance of using spectra/dyneema over kevlar as it slides over it's self and is not effected by the UV light.
This is NOT an attack on you Tim, just me inquiring about where kevlar lines sit in our "friendly" racing series?????
I am not saying that there will be a problem with the kevlar bridles cutting every one elses kites out of the air, but we must accept that this could happen and work out a solution to the problem before it happens in a race.

I look forward to more racing with all you friendly bunch of kiters. :D

Congratulations to everyone for a great event.

 Nigel, if you are serious about the danger of kevlar bridles, you should post it as a separate topic and try to get some input from other groups who have dealt with this issue. I will be surprised if Geelong is the first place this has occurred. Or do you have another card up your sleeve?

I am looking forward to another race day ASAP. Bring it on guys.

I have posted this question on the Flexi web site under the recreation section, please feel free to input there if you want.
I am only looking ahead to the possibility of it being a problem if two kites tangle and the kevlar bridled kite cuts through either the other line or the bridle of the other tangled kite.
Kites and lines are not cheap.
Is it the duty of the person with the kevlared kite to replace the lines if they do cut through the others persons equipment????
Where would this stand if you are battling for position durring a race???
What if the kevlared kite is near the back of the field and the current leader comes past and they tangle with dire results for the leader????
Does he finish 1st or get a DNF????
You may think of me as stiring up a hornets nest, but I would rather alert everyone to a possible problem and come up with some sort of an answer. I hope that this problem never comes up, but if you plan for it then it is not a problem.
I do enjoy the way we all have a good time out on the racing field and hope it continues to be the same for many more to come.
Sorry no cards up sleve.

Nigel,

I cannot answer your thorny questions, but I can tell you that it does say in the Geelong and District Kitebuggy Racing Rules that Kevlar lines are NOT allowed.

I think it's a reasonable assumption that the chances of the Bridles of one kite cutting another are fairly remote. Are there instances of this happening that you know of?

I will bring this topic up at the next club meeting next week (any members welcome to attend!), and see what others say.

If no ruling is made, then we'll worry about what to do when something bad happens. It might be simple just to say that the guy with the Kevlar bridle should pay the other guy for a new bridle / lines, and be disqualified - but that isn't really fair on him now is it? After all, it wasn't intentional - it was just an accident!

Cheers,
Goshen

Thanks Goshen,
I am glad to see that you have taken the bull by the horns and are comming to some sort of possibe outcome.
I too hope the racing continues to be kite-mare free :D

On another note, I forgot to thank Mick at Airbourne Kites for the use of the Libre Boras!!!!!!
Libre have just released the Bora II, and a new race buggy called the "Hardcore". See there web site, plug, plug.

i think that it will need to be addressed, but untill somthing happens we should just let it be, although i pray the new blades dont come out with then becasue then i will be in trouble, my arc always seems to be in the way, but that is the bonus of owning a bus :)
nigel, come to sandy point easter weekend, :) you need to teach mum how to buggy :)

Sandy Point sounds good!!!!

The cost to your Mum for my buggy lessions is a smile :D
She also has to go in the Intermediate buggy race, atleast once next season too.

Is there anything in the racing rules that bans using razor wire for lines??
Should be better than kevlar!!!!!
