View Full Version : Rubber sheet for splash guards
Shultzie has a heavy duty splash guard on his buggy cut from a sheet of blue rubber. Justin, do you know what it is called? How can I get some of this stuff? I have tried a couple of pool shops to no avail.

Hi Bob,
Try the camping shops (not the upmarket ones).
Its the blue camping mats if I am not mistaken.
They should be under $10, sometimes even half that!!!
Did you solve this one Bob?
Buggy has arrived here and while the chillens are having a ball with it before it even hits the beach.
Before I get more sand in my face, I'm going to go a bit of cordura or similar. If you've got kids running about the place, busted backpacks are a good source.
Its pretty exy other wise, anything from $15 - 40 odd depending on the grade.
hi Mojo, great to hear you have your buggy.
No I could not find a source for the blue stuff Shultzie had. It is a building material and very tough. Camping mats are too soft.
Two ply rubber is too weak also but I found that I could stop it tearing by laminating the edges using contact adhesive with a piece of polypropylene webbing under an extra strip of rubber. In the end I lost my enthusiasm for a big rubber splash guard and stayed with our old piece of blue tarp.
I reckon the easiest home made bump protection is a small but tough rubber mat tied under your seat with a long splash guard below.
To quickly attach and detach stuff onto your axle and side rails, the best tip is a loop of shock cord hooked around a button or a bead.
There are some fantastic belly pans on the Flexi site.

went looking for some padding for my knees to use at work, i'm forever on my knees beggin the boss for more money!!!
at a local op shop found an old wetsuit for $3, cut the top of the sleeves off about 9 inches long, cut a big hole for the back of the knee to flex, and hay presto, knee padding!!!
now the left over bit, looking like a short sleeve top, the only bit useable would be the back i thought, then  a brain storm hit me, what great material for a splash guard!!!!!
i am right now at this very second about to make a splash guard, it will go from the fr pivot point in the forks, right back under my ass and also should serve as a wear plate to protect my seat.
  am i a bright spark or what? keep the answers nice please.
cheap bastard wins again, all for only $3
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY  you wouldn't guess i'm 44 would ya???
Been looking for something suitable for a week or so and a visit to K-mart saw me coming home with a trailor cover. Bit exy at $39.00.
Contains 1.2 x .9m heavy duty pvc, brass gromits all around, but will be able to leave some where they are on the fit out. Also includes about 5m of nice thick elastic cord and a couple of stretchy cord ends I can reuse on the fitting.
got a bit of adhesive ripstop, so will probably use that to help prevent tears under the sewing machine and tie it all together.
Now about that 'how to bugg' vid. Well I had my first probably proper go at it last week after a few tips from a friend. Helped me get kite up to speed and flying tips. Thanks Al, you're a champion!
2 more days till the weekend.
Finally getting around to fitting the 'cover' to the buggy.
Perusing thru the mags, with what flexifoil has on their buggies.
I'm sure mine will get torn to shreds soon enuf, but think I saw something in bunning last week that may be a little firmer and more hardwearing.
