View Full Version : Urgent info needed..Wind in Sydney & Melbourne in Decemb
First post, so take it easy on me (even though I am a pom). My mate is flying out later today and wondered which kites to take... I thought he needed his largest (being a 16m) and doubtful whether they'd be enough for a 12m :?:
Also, what's the kiting like at Bell's (Torquay) :?:
Thanks in advance & Merry Christmas
Rob
PS check out our website - www.boardhigh.com - we have a brief report on the Naish Torch & lots of other stuff

To give you an idea of what it's like currently check out the www.bom.gov.au website. It will have all the detail you need.
I fly Kitewings and sail blokarts so not exactly sure on the wind ranges for each kite. Last weekend I was sailing in a 30-45knot westerly at 86km/h with a 2m rig on. May have been a bit much for the 12m, maybe?

Cheers Kem, thanks for the info. Sounds like my mate is going to get punished on his 12m Boxer in those winds, hopefully he has the sense to wait for the conditions to get a bit more sensible.
Interested to hear about your kites?? I have never heard of blockarts & a 2m kite sounds scary.. does it boost ? do you have any photo's of you using it ?
Thanks again.. have a great Christmas & good kiting,,, I'm off to the beach now (South Coast UK), 11 degrees and 25knots and 2m waves :D

The blokarts are micro landyachts with 2,3 &4m sails the top is 93 with the 3 but the 2 was quicker as it has less front drag.
I fly a 5.5m Kitewing with a Flexi Dirtsurfer when it's 15-25knots onshore and rip it up in the blokarts outside of that range. You can check out a few shots on our website at www.gippslandadventuresports.com.
I'll have some shots of me on the wing on there shortly as i've just come to terms with it as it's like windsurfing and hanggliding combined.
Give us a yell if you or anyone else is ever in our area of the globe and wants to have a go. I can set up a demo at Sandy Point, Waratah Bay, Victoria, Australia, the bottom of the Australian mainland. The beach is 20km's of wide hard sand with awesome winds.
cheers

Hi Rob,
Tell your mate he should drop into the Kitepower store in Geelong (it's on the way to Torquay from Melbourne), as we can point out the best local spots to kite. Don't worry, a 12m won't be too big for most days down this way! If he's heading to Sydney, then Dolls Point (Botany Bay) is one of the better spots to go kiting.
Our seasons just getting going, and it's been pretty good so far.
If you need more info, please ask.
Cheers,
Goshen
