Hey Guys,
My first venture into this site so forgive any errors etc. Had a bit of a read. Man can you guys waffle on.... Justin - maybe find a Subaru site?
Going to be going to the Adelaide Festival buggy racing to defend the Victorian supremacy over there :D and just interested to know of any others going across. Doing the independant travel arrangements in case of work interference so can't offer anyone a ride sorry. Craig not coming this year due to his brother's wedding in Thailand (There's a bucks night I'd like to be invited to) so need other Vic buggy reps to help annoy the locals over there.
Details: 23rd and 24th March, Racing at Lower Light Beach, camp overnight (Optional).
25,26,27th March - Adelaide International Kite Festival
Semaphore Beach, Adelaide.

I'll be there!!!
So, Andy do we make the SA boys irrate by tossing a coin (infront of them all) and saying that who ever wins the toss, wins the buggy race and the other one is second.
I am taking a few days off work to be there for the entire fester. It should be a good time.
Here's hoping that my new kite is here before then. But last news had it delayed. :(
Update on Dukey, He might not be there due to finanicial constraints ( or Tracy constraining some part of Neils anotomy  )

Hmmm, maybe next year we can get a carload or two of ACT/NSW types accross there to see if we can throw the cat among the pigeons...
Look forward to a report.

Hope this comes out in the right place - wanted to say to Meteor that we hear stuff all about buggying in NSW/ACT and I was interested to see some stuff on the site in the photos (I think). Would be keen to get up to any good open windy areas you guys have for a visit/roadtrip. Would also be excellent to see you guys across for racing in SA or down in Vic. It's a lot of fun and we all learn from each other so the more the merrier.
Cheers. 8)

There are plenty of decent spots in NSW for buggying. The best time to visit is the warmer months for buggying the coast (when you are more likely to get onshore winds). The two top spots close to Sydney are Seven Mile beach south of Wollongong at Gerroa (SE winds) and Stockton Beach at Newcastle (S-SE winds - 40kms long). Sydney itself has no decent buggy beaches but anywhere South or North gives a range of options.
Lake George is a top spot and the Canberra and Sydney crowd head there for the open space (pics on link at top). The lake is very large and wind direction doesn't matter. The surface is dirt rather than clay or salt and is not hard - but it is fast enough. In the past, there haven't been any decent groups of buggiers/landboarders in NSW, but Lake George is starting to look like it may change that.
I might put Adelaide on the list for next year and get some others interested. Do they have any freestyle kitebuggy events?
Cheers,
Wato

Sorry, no freestyle stuff.
Only Pursuit race, Endurance course race and 3 point race.
But I am sure no one will be holding back durring the public display days on the beach.

Enough interest would probably result in a freestyle event (I'm keen). Not that many of the guys spend a lot of time tricking in the buggys so it's only through lack of participants that there isn't one now I'd say. Nigel would be in it (Maybe not in that Harley Davidson Buggy), Dukey when his shoulders ok (Scary as he can be...), Craig can manage two wheels, Crowie in Pt Fairy loves 360's and might give it a crack.......

ill go frestylee... yeh not in a buggy but freestyle none the less.
it there a freestly mountainboard event?
nigel
10-03-2005, 05:20 PM
Sorry Justin no ATB events, but if we ask we might get a freestyle event for next year???
nigel
10-03-2005, 05:36 PM
Also forgot to add.
I can freestyle my Libre, only two wheel tricks.
Have tried to do 360's with the bike wheels, but the final result is a 180-270 with an OBE
You can do it on the wet grass though :D
And I am also up for a freestyle event if it goes ahead.
I think we should get some signs made up saying "Warning, low flying kite buggyies".
My fav freestyle sound is a buggy doing a 540 on the bike track, with all three wheels screaming in protest!!
Even better is Apex park, the bike track is a yellow colour, but not once i've finished with it!!
No wonder I need new tyres for both buggyies :(

Maybe the Sandy Bay Speed Week would be a good opportunity to have a Freestyle event if the wind isn't nuclear the whole time (but who would be complaining!). I wouldn't mind coming down for that. It sounds like the last one was really good and it would be nice to see how fast we can crank the buggies.
Or else we could organise one on the NSW South Coast at Merrimbula or somewhere (summer'd be the go).
Cheers,
Wato

Next time Justin we will have to work out one way how to share the driving and fit all our stuff into one car/van and trailor combo.
I was flying some of the two string freestyle kites on the weekend and the Rev in the latter part of the afternoons. I was the one luffing and ramming all the kites in the air and trying to bring them down :D or teasing people with the Rev about a foot above their head, and taking sea gulls out of the air
Heres hoping that there willl be another fester next year, and more people can make it over to what must be one of the best in Australia.
Thanks to all the SA mob for their efforts in a great time had by us Vics while attending the fester :D :D
See you next year!!!

What kites were flown by the top guys, sizes, wind, courses etc. How many people racing, where were the races held? Any photos to post etc?

Greetings Guys
Congratulations to the Vics for winning the racing this year and to all racers for competing safely and in good spirits (too many spirits for some).
Keep an eye on www.akfa.com for full racing results and details plus photos from the weekend.
Thanks to those that came along and joined us - we appreciate the effort.

Hey Justin
My brother Trev said he has been talking to you about mountain boards - if you end up catching up with him, give him my screw driver!!
I know Phil has been reading this forum as well, so we'll keep an eye out for any extreme kiting weekends coming up.
I want to hit some dunes.... beachport maybe?
nigel
08-04-2005, 06:59 PM
Theres some dunes at Portland.
Been there, some quite big ones, and the Portland buggy club (motorised ones) are there.
I think you would need big foots for this terrain.
I would love for a trip to Gairdner to be planned.
Did anyone see last weeks 60 minutes???
It had a bit on the people who go to Gairdner and do speed runs in their cars and bikes.
These people go there every year for a week and go screaming along there marked course.
I am sure that you might get a few internationals turning up to enjoy this huge buggy field if we went.
The current world record for a buggy is 72mph or about 117kph.
Anyone up to challenge for the title???

i want ot see how long it takes to go trough a set of mountain board tires... yeah trev will get the goods, am going to lend him a board so he can see if he likes it or not...
Bring on a trip....
nigel
13-04-2005, 07:28 PM
Results for the buggy racing are up on the AKFA site ( see link above).
Justin you got second overall!!! Last time I lend you my spare buggy :x
Kites used:
Andrew on his Razors, of various sizes (generally one one size up on most people)
Justin was on his Arc's, 15P and 10G.
Me C-Quads.
Ray was using Phil's designed race foil the Tsunami.
Mick had a mix of N-Gens and Quadrafoil X series (XS,XM,XL,XXL etc.)
Dont' remember to much more, but there is always a good showing from the Quadrafoil X range amongst the rest of the SA boys.
It was very interesting to see that the Arc's are very quick for such a big kite.
PL has been buggy racing at NABX and has been winning with his Venoms and new buggy, so there might be some more Arc's at the next buggy meet??

WOOT WOOT.... Carn the Arc.... i know i got an adelaide tee shirt for one reason and that was coming 2nd in the buggying.... dont worry next time i will take my buggy and just use bigger kites... the cross wind run will be ballistic....
the pictures suck there aint nething from the buggying or the kite surfing or ne of that stuff :( oh well
WHO LIKES ARCS>>>>>>> I LIKE ARCS. ARCS... Repeat this a few times and you will ge the picture for the future....
nigel
14-04-2005, 08:53 PM
I think I like Arcs.
We will see once my new kite arrives :D
P6, P6, P6.....
The Duke
16-04-2005, 01:12 AM
Gairdner is definately worth the trip and I would reccommend anyone go there but I would be very cautious of using a board on this surface......
It could only result in tears......
I have fond memories of returning from a run of about 20 to 30 minutes at an average of about 70kph SIDEWAYS with a 3.5 NGEN and seeing parts of my innertubes poking through what was left of my buggy canvas (read extremely worn tyres) and having to replace them before returning to the salt the next day for more fun.
Anyone care to join me on a trip to Gairdner, when my shoulder is back in one piece of course.....

Count me in Dukey!!! :D

16-04-2005, 02:20 PM
if i can get the time off work illl be in to
and i am sur the sponsors will get behind it as well... would be cool to be the fasted mountainboarder out there
but as you say scary....
Lake Gairdner is sometimes flooded. Check first or take your surfing gear.
You should book a campsite at Mt Ives and I guess they will tell you the conditions.
It is a long way to go. Are there any salt pans a bit closer?
schultzie
16-04-2005, 07:34 PM
yeah kingston... or the one that me and dukey seen on the dukes highway... but id rather kingston as that is huge.

19-04-2005, 09:25 PM
Just to stir up shi.... conversation, Phil reckons he creamed the G10 arc with his 3.5 m tsunami.
If only he had been able to follow race instructions and go around the mark the right way!
schultzie
19-04-2005, 10:35 PM
no comment.... at the least it is still a quick kite.... and for all we know it may have been a fluke that phil diddnt have any accidents... we were all warned to stay away from him tha tis probaly the only reason why he was ahead... and on that note not far ahead eithor.
