Hi,

I'm currently in Sydney backpacking around and i've brought my Kite with me. I'm looking for a beach/area to fly the kite that is wide and spacious, I'll heading be out with friends who'll be crashing the kite regulary so I'll need somewhere that doesn't have trees or buildings right next to the beach, maybe backs onto dunes? Does anyone know of such a place that is within easy reach by train/bus from the centre of sydney?
Also, I've been looking at Cronulla's northern beaches as a possible place to go, does anyone know of a suitable beach that is in walking distance of Cronulla train station?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Chris,

We fly north of Wanda alot (Northern most beach at Cronulla), this is a good spot if your mates are likely to crash the kite, as there are not many people if you walk far enough north, and there are dunes behind the beach.

I have never walked the distance, but it is probebly a 15-20 minute walk from Cronulla station. You will have to head well past Wanda beach to avoid people. We haven't hit anyone and would appreciate it greatly if you do not either! It is a great spot for us to fly at and would hate to be banned from it.

Also, there are some dune fences there now while they are stabilising the dunes, so mind that your kite does not land on one of them! If flying on the beach the best direction is a SE, but any wind with East in it is fine. If it is blowing west forget that spot the dunes are high enough that it will just turn the whole beach into a rotar and you will not have a good fly and will probebly end up in the drink!!!

There are lots of kitesurfers that use this spot. We mainly landboard and buggy. Make sure to say g'day if you see us down there!

Cheers,
Matt

Hi,

Thanks for that, will be very careful and fly out of the way of people, no worries. I'll probably be heading down over the coming weekend, will be flying a Blade II 4.9 (gold tips). Keep an eye out for the kite and come over if you spot us.

Cheers,

Chris
