Not bringing the BBQ, Sorry people,

We still want people to turn up that way we can explain how the racing works and go through the rules, then if the wind is right we can have a kite. we can also go through the registration process.

Im not denying that the forecast looks bleek but it would be good to see people Turn up. and this is what we would like to see happen through the series, because at times we will count those who have turned and give them points in the series, and we can still have a good day out :D

You Do not need to be a member of the club to come!!!

Did the GKC members list recieve emails regarding this race series yet ? Or atleast details of round 1 ?

Hi Nas,

The email for your whole race series was sent out to Victorian members over a week ago, perhaps two now. If you contacted either of your fellow committee staff members, such as your Secretary or President you would be aware of this.

Joel

Ok Schulztie, that's enough of an excuse for me to come. Hell, it's just down the road from my place. Yes I would be curious about the rules and how these races work, Andre was asking about this too. Also gives me more time to bone up on my landboarding skills.

As a paid up member it surprises me I didnt get an email Joel. I know things await Goshens return but...

if 0-5 knots is all thats expected I wont even be wasting the juice going down there.

Your on the committee Nas, set an example!!

It is also an oppertunity to discuss with your fellow committee members any problems you have, and if and when we can fix them.

Goshen is still in Europe, but I am sure the rest of the committe can work around this.

Will see you Sunday Nas.:yes3:

And all the other kiters. :D

Your on the committee Nas, set an example!!

Tried that from the beginning by organising a school demo. Plenty said hey great idea Nas, but the only one who said Im up for it was Schultzie. 1 person isnt good enough. I also went about door knocking to attempt to gain access to private property for racing, but no luck as yet.

It is also an oppertunity to discuss with your fellow committee members any problems you have, and if and when we can fix them.

Im sure I made those perfectly clear in the pm I sent.

Will see you Sunday Nas.

Thats for me to decide. And at 1 knot forecast, I wouldnt hold my breath.

Latest forecast from the BOM:

Tonight and Sunday
Southerly winds 5 to 10 knots becoming variable overnight at less than 8 knots
then mostly easterly tomorrow to 10 knots. Waves less than half a metre.

Looks promising!!

See you all tomorrow.

I'll be there... I just hope the wind turns up!

10 Knots would at least be workable..... but it is extremely calm at the moment.

Zachary and I will be turning up too, that is if we can find the place through the fog :D. Yea no kidding, thick as pea soup, about 500 m visibility. At any rate we will turn up.

And we gathered at Apex Park Altona....

Myself and the boys, Jolli and his friend with family whos name escapes me, they were there....

There was Pete and his family....

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1838Medium.jpg

Southerly Buster and Zach was there, Nigel arrived too....

John from Kitepower Geelong was there, and another dude too, but I forget his name..

.Joel and Melissa showed up, but magically escaped the cameras lens.

.Joel threw a couple of Radsail ELO's and a Radsail R3 at our feet and a few of us had a fly... though I didnt get any pics of those kites... It was very cold... and my hands wanted to stay in my pockets.

But it flew in next to no wind, and beautifully I might add for a 6.5 fixed bridle....probably about 2-3 knots. It had to be worked, but indeed it flew. .Joel even ran a full 360 and sent the kite on a complete lap around himself at one point which was a pretty cool manouvre I thought.

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1837Medium.jpg

Schultzie and his girlfriend were there also and he threw the new Radsail R3 landboard together and though there was no wind, he slotted his feet in and gave it some strength tests by bouncing it, and spinning it, and slamming it down. Didnt get any pics of that either actually.... my hands were still hibernating from the cold.

But this is the board here....

http://www.powerkiteshop.com/images/productimages/boards/eolorkbr308.jpg

It passed the test with flying colours. Nice looking board too.

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1836Medium.jpg

And we deliberated in the mist...

Hy0MLU5asxs

With no wind.....

waiting....

And deliberating....

For 2 hours or more, and eventually the decision was made to relocate to the 100 Steps of Federation at H.D Graham Reserve

Hi Nas,

All up including visitors I think we had 17 people, with 9 of them racers. Safe to say a couple of rounds in where we get a decent wind and nice day we should have 14 - 18 racing buggies in the series, not including the land boarders. So should be a positive series if we can get the numbers up for monthly racing.

Regards,

.Joel

Yep, it was a damn good turnout considering the conditions... and there was atleast one new face that I know of... a South African gent, and a lovely bloke he was too...

So off we went....

John (I think) Produced a FF Blurr... and a number of us took turns in having a fly of it...

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1855Medium.jpg

Awesome kite...

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1846Medium.jpg

It was a 5m...

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1858Medium.jpg

Everyone was intrested....

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1843Medium.jpg

I had a fly and in the minimal wind could still feel the amount of power it could produce...

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1856Medium.jpg

Noisy too, its going to howl once it gets some wind in its cells let me give you the tip...

What are you nutters doing in all that cold !!!!!!!

It looks nothing short of miserable ... made bearable by company and kites

Ashame you had no wind .... at the beach today we had great wind, but rain and no beach ... and at the park we had no rain and gusty wind, which eventualy turned into no wind, it was cool ....

but
..... never once did I have to wear a beenie
..... never once did my hands enter my pockets (other than scratching)

*chuckle* .... Im off to upload some pics :D
Happy Days

It was a really cool crowd, and everyone was in a cheerful kiting mood inspite of the chilly conditions...

Nigel put his little stunt kite through it paces, and concluded that at best, we had 3-4 knots to play in up there on H.D's Mountain.

The lads used the hill to do some landboarding and shrieks of excitement could be heard through the gentle fog, wet shoes, socks and frozen feet and all...

Schultzie rolled out the big PL Venom and harnessed up...

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1841Medium.jpg

A small crowd watched on...

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1842Medium.jpg

and what a sight it was among the bleakness...

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1861Medium.jpg

resplendent in its big bold colours of red and gold... and black and white....

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/NasNewAlbum/IMGP1863Medium.jpg

Unfortunately there was only just enough wind to propell himself along at a slow walking pace, so it wasnt long before the beast was packed away.

Other kites I spotted but didnt photograph included a 5.5 Brooza which a couple of us had a fly of... an older 8.5 Blade... a HQ Beamer and a new 3.5 Sting if I remember correctly.

Zach has his quattro out early on and showed everyone how it was done, and Im sure iv missed a name or 3, and a kite or 2...

But in the end it was a good fun day.

As we packed up and made our way down the hill.... Zach decided he would have one more blast before tucking into his dinner so off up the hill he went.... and finished the day off with this little run down to the finish line....

I cant help but grin big when I look at that boys face in that sequence...

Great things lay ahead for that boy in the world of kites. What a dude.

Cant wait for round 2.

That little kid is a f'n genius! I was out flying the 6.5, zilch wind, he walks up to his old man and tells him he wants to kite. SoutherleyBuster tells him there's not much wind, Zach tells him in no uncertain terms that I had a kite in the air, so SB couldn't argue with that. On goes the little backpack and out in to the park he goes! 5 Minutes later here's this 6 year old (i'm guessing age here) flying this 4 line handled imp in 4 knots of wind! Working the kite, keeping it in the air, moving it about, amazing. Now to see the photos of him cruising down the hill on his ATB after we had left is simply astonishing!

.Joel

Iv watched Zach kite a couple of times now Mrs JKS and I absolutely guarantee... for a kid 7 or 8 yrs old...easily..by the time he is a teenager, he will be putting even seasoned kiters to shame with his talent.

Yes all the lads young and old had a ball. Zachary (almost 8yrs old) said he had great fun mucking around with NAS's kids. Just before I tucked Zachary into bed, he said he had a great week end. My wife took some videos too, see if I can get them assembled tonight. Great shots NAS. Funny with the cold, didn't feel it so much, but when I got home had a look at the BOM: 10 degrees and that was at noon --- Marty, want to move to warm Melbourne ???
