wow; this is coming up; like soon!! and it's still on - we'll attempt to race no matter what the conditions are.
Wind's looking Northerly - if we finish up early, then perhaps some people might be interested in going to Eastern Park, or taking a visit to Dogrocks. But we'll still be meeting at the Belmont Common as above.

Who's going to make it down?

I'll send an email out to the GKC mailing list as well.

See you there!

:) Fifth proximal phalanx to be exact...split right along the length from joint to joint.

I know it's only my left pinky but it's the one that hurts the most :)
almost had to have it pinned but as I left it for 2 weeks before I got a xray done, it's almost healed.
You should see me holding a cuppa....just like .Joel sipping on some tea .. pinky up in the air :D

Count the two Busters in, Zachary and I will be coming along. My wife is also 90% going to come. Zachary will be a specletator (unless there is an under 12's side). Depending on how game I am on the day, I'll with my limited landboarding experience will give it a go. Either way we will be geared up and ready for some fun kiting. Still busy sewing the NPW5 8m^2, might be ready for the day, who knows.

Don't think you'll need the 8m NASA Norm!!!

Latest BOM forecast as of 4pm Friday:

Sunday
Northerly winds of 15 to 20 knots increasing to 20 to 25 knots and possibly
reaching 30 knots at times. Waves mostly 1 to 1.5 metres.

Joel's got a shiney new 3.5m Combat, but I think it's going to be a bit strong for it.

See you there! :D

Hi Nigel, I think you are right. I'm still itching to get the kite made and fly it. If it's beyond 15 knots the 8 m^2 won't come out. I've always got 2.5m^2 NPW. It must be the calm before the storm, pretty quiet out there now.

Looking at the current obs you guys are in for a good day, Ne/NNE/N is a good direction at belmont, gets gusty but, hopefully some people will have smaller to mid sized depower kites, I think they will have an advantage.

Take care, hopefully no injuries.

He decided to come "crusing" up next to us on the highway. So I thought what better way to welcome him then flick some snot at his shiny new car :D

It was a good day today and an excellent turn out, wind was complete crap up and down but we had a good day. I'll get some photos up tomorrow, about to go get some sleep for an early start tomorrow.

Yep its great to see such a big turnout this season even though the wind wasn't good today.
Quite a few new faces in the crowd too.
Bring on the wind for round 3 and lets have a bumper buggy season.

Wasn't G. Watts disqualified for using some kind of unfair advantage??? Seems he was the only one getting around the course while everybody else struggled to get a whiff of wind. Smells like anti-gravitronic propulsion to me :D:D:D
Oh and Justin was awarded triple points for doing a 360 :yes3:

what was it triple word score for a long expletive

That might have uttered from my mouth Goz.:sorry:

I was twice standing on my foot pegs at 30kph trying to control an 8.5m C-Quad!!!
Decided to pack it in after some consideration that I had the collar bone patched up 9 weeks ago.

The winds were shocking for the buggy race and even more so for the boarders.
On the start line there was some wind, but it died almost as soon as we got going.
It took me 9 minutes to do a single lap with a 10m Scorpion.
Goshen had a 5m Blurr, Neil had a 4.5m Raptor 2.
I ditched the ARC after the first lap and dragged out the 8.5m C-Quad.
I lost time but I knew I would catchup in the light winds.
In the two to three minutes I took to get the C-Quad out, the wind picked up
So here am I alomst on the limit, but gee was it great to point at a marker up wind and get there while the rest were tacking back and forth.
It only lasted two flying laps, till I called it off.
Was tempted to rush back and get the smaller C-Quad, but I think time was up.
Very glad to get third considering how pitiful the wind was.

And the boarders had all their kites on the ground at one point due to the lack of wind!!
I know I saw Richard doing a 360 (yes, mid race!), didn't see Justin doing one?

Fingers crossed for better conditions next time. :yes3:

A few thoughts on the day,

Well I must say it was an action packed event even though the wind was all over the place.

Thing’s where eventful even before the starters gun went off, pilots where jockeying for position at the rather narrow start line. Justin was teasing us with his elongated announcements that the race would start in 3 minutes (felt like 10 by the time it did):D

The gun went off and so did we, right into a massive tangle of kites, I managed to collided with a few kites at the starting line and the race had to be restarted.

Ok! off we go again this time a clean start, I surged into the lead rounding the first marker ahead of everyone only to find that the wind had disappeared . My kite fell out of the sky and that was it for me, I spent the next 10 minutes trying to relaunch my kite and stay out of everyone’s way. (Pretty much the tone of the rest of the race for me)

In the meanwhile everyone else started rounding the marker and surging ahead. Goshen must have had helium in his kite (5m Blurr), he was the first one to round the marker after I did and the lack of wind didn’t seem to affect him at all. By the time I managed the get restarted most of the field had past me and was rounding the second marker. Got some wind to the second marker and bam no wind again, we where in the shadow of a line of trees on the edge of the course and it was all over for a few of us at that point.

Noticed Joel was nowhere to be found at the start of the race, after the race I asked him what happened, and I quote “I knew there would be a massive tangle of kites at the first marker so I hung back and waited for everyone else to go past” words of wisdom in the end Joel’s predication came thru at marker 1 and 2. ;)

At times the wind felt like it was only getting up to 5knots, eventually the wind picked up enabling me to get going again. Nigel was moving slowly along in about 2nd place with his 10 meter scorpion, not sure when but somehow managed to swap to a 4+ meter C-Quad before the wind picked up heaps (about 15 to 20 I guess) and I noticed him riding the foot pegs before he called it quits :yes3:. I was trying desperately to hold onto the 7 meter HAKA which was determined show me some freestyle moves, man was that a fun ride, just point the kite at a marker and whoosh you are there. If only we had that at the start.

Oh! Ad not to forget Chris, the Italian stallion, Chris started the race off with a 9 meter Blade and was good till the wind really picked up. Every time I looked over in his direction I could see him riding the bull, wow that was crazy, he was on a white knuckle ride and I don’t think we had quite enough park! I saw him OBE at least twice in the race at over 30 – 40 km’s. But like Chris always does hi just get’s back on and goes again, amazing!

Anyways an interesting second round, first round if you remember was no wind at all, second round wind on and off, what’s the third round got install for us.

It was a very fun and social day, unfortunately the winds were very on and off. I started out on a 3.5m PKD Combat (sweeeet kite) then finished up on a Radsail Savage 6.5m as there just wasn't enough low end in the race kite. Took some of us over 10 mins to do one lap, I looped the kite a counted 12 times and moved less then 20 meters at one stage of the race. Sure enough after I landed my kite and thought "scrap this" about 3 mins later, enough time for me to walk to the marker the wind picked up and blew like crazy for a short period. Then by the land board race people were doing kite 360's in the middle of the race the wind was that dead :D

Day finished well handballing Zac the 5m Blurr, there was so little wind I had to run back to get the thing in the air, handed it over to him and the apperant wind from keeping the kite moving was already too much for him and had him scudding :D Not sure how much he weighs, maybe 25kg? Was very fun to watch.

Hopefully next race the winds start being a bit more favourable. We had a good turnout, and some productive car graffitiying went on, Dukey's car got a nice makeover ;)

Was good to see douglas out and about again, we both got stranded in the far corner with scrap all wind for most part of the race. Decided that walking diagnally wasn't to our advantage, so it would be acceptable to walk

.Joel

Sounds like everyone had a good time. Congrats to Goshen for taking a clean sweep.

Events have been conspiring against me. Spent the weekend pulling the kitchen out of my parents house. :(

But I will be at round 3 with bells on. Oh... and kites. Looking forward to it. Hopefully the wind plays ball.

Sure was a top weekend. Zachary was all smiles at the end of the day. Should have some photos back tonight from the chemist (film from the SLR), I'll see how well they scan from the prints, but will get better scans from the film direct later on. The buggy start was sure colourful .... the mad rush to the first marker .... then the kites falling out of the sky. Was thinking, better be quite, it's my turn next on the land board, then it will be time for them to have a laugh at me!

As it turned out had a bit of a buster before the race, twisted my ankle, but didn't let that stop me from entering the race. Made it past the first marker, half way to the next and the combination of my skill level (hey only on the landboard for 10 or so hours) and low wind, couldn't get upwind any more. I didn't give up until the race terminated.

PS. Those permanently anchored seats in the middle of the park are a bumer! Walked backwards onto one of those when the wind dropped trying to keep the kite in the air. Smack on the right leg, was also the same ankle that got sprained later one, perhaps the two were related. Any tips on avoiding spraned ankles welcome.

Thanks guys for organising the event. Zachary says thanks to Joel for nudging Goshen, and thanks to Goshen for letting Zachary have a go on his FlexiFoil Blur.

Great add for the FlexiFoil Blur --- cleaned up the event!
