BYO mud tyres I think??
How muddy does it get??
Last time I had a buggy ride there, my front wheel locked solid with mud.
Wasn't much in the way of grass then (clumps of thistles), so fingers crossed, more grass, less muddy??

I'll be there. Zachary might come later on in the afternoon. Nigel, no thistles and there is enough grass for mud not to be a problem. The Northern end was pretty good last weekend, no mud. The Southern end, yep does have some mud spots. The Northern end gives the most space and is void of the turbulence (well with Southerlies when the wind goes over the bridge in the Souther end of the park).

Goshen, you've got say to it out load what Chris is saying, then it makes sense. He writes as he speaks it. Haven't you ever read the book "Catcher in the Rye", he did the same thing. Just imagine the heavy Italian accent layered on top.
Lookin' forward to catch up. Hey watch out for Cris, he's been practicing, the speeding bullet.

Pretty accurate crystal ball u got there Nigel :)
I took a peek at the ground conditions yesterday evening and there is no mud that I could see. The place is covered in patchy, short green grass so It should be ok.
According to the BOM right now the wind there is 7 to 10 knots and hopefully it will pick up as the ground warms up. Radar is showing light patchy rain spots in the Laverton area and pretty much clear everywhere else.
See ya's there

GKC Round 3 Writeup!
Well what an AWSOME day it was! What started out at 7 degrees at 9am slowly started to shine. Everyone arriving and getting themselves setup with smiles on everyone's faces. First up was the land board race, followed by the first buggy race. The wind for the first races was very average, from struggling to move at one marker to heavily overpowered at the next, and a beautiful little mudpile right in the middle to make things more fun! Shortly after the first race the wind dropped out completely, a few faces headed off and then the rain came, terrential! We all ran for the shelters and hung out there for about half an hour while the rain came over. After the rain disappeared it was sunny blue skies again, so we headed back out and decided to run another two buggy races. Second one was very interesting with absoloute carnage all over the place, followed by Dukey snapping an axle bolt.
Thank you to everyone who came and everyone who helped organise the day, it was fantastic and your efforts were most appreciated!
Some photos from the day.... and yes Kiteboarding the lake was attempted.

Hats off to Nigel coming 1st place in all three races. Well done to Goshen for coming 1st in the land board race. And finally, special mention and congratulations to Fredrico (Cris Italy) who put on a very very entertaining display during the race insisting all markers be passed by either a 180, 360, OBE or nearly finishing up in the lake! :D
Next race I say we give Nigel the job of counting the laps ;)

Hey I gave every one a full lap advantage before I started the first race.:yes3:
Quite glad that I could not get the 10m Scorpion in the air, so had to go back to the 8.5 C-Quad for the first race.
It was pulling like a truck!! So was the 4.2 C-Quad for the second!!
The 10m Scorpion got used for the third race.
Very interesting racing!!
I lead the first one, only just after having to make up the lap I missed, beat Neil by half a lap in the end.
The second race, Neil got past me on the 3rd lap I think, and slowly started to get away, till the next lap when the wheel bolt snapped.
What Neil doesn't know, that as it was my rear axle he borrowed (left his at home:o) I had a little button......
The button got another workout durring the third race when the wind died halfway through and I had the rest of the field gaining fast on my lead.
Chris (Fredrico) was about to get past when his strop snapped, and his kite went flying all on it's own.
So I have to say a big thank you to the powers that be for todays win.
Luck must of been with me as when I was walking to the set up area in the morning, I found $10 sitting in the long grass just off the path :D
Hope you all had fun!!
A great day, made better by enjoying it with a great bunch of fellow kiters!! :yes3:

Great turn out all round .... nice to see a few kites in the air

Wish I was there ....

Hey Nigel

Well done, 1 st in all 3 races.
Sounds like an epic day, you Melburnian/Vics are spiled with all that flat ground!

Sure was a top weekend. Was absolutely buggered when I came home and ate the fridge empty. Sore muscles in the arms, holding onto that NPW5 8m^2 (the Norminater Marty?) and that was in 4-7knots. Did swap over to the VenomII 13m^2 when the wind picked up --- what a relief to be a bar system + harness, my arms were saying thank you. Will have to refine the strop so it's a workable system, didn't use it on the day, just the handles. One swollen left thumb. Tried the NPW on the Saturday in 15-19 knots, had to squat on the board to keep it down, so the double work out explains the sore muscles.
Many thanks to the organisers and photos.

Yep, a big thanks to all for a great race event.
My own axle will definately be the first thing packed next time :yes3:
Those PL buggy bits just can't handle the punnishment I put 'em through:sorry: Sorry bout the bolt Nigel.

Glad you all had a great day, really!
Bummer to forget a critical bit like your axle Dukey, and lucky you could borrow Nigels, sort of!
However in the interests of keeping the record straight and to protect the image of the newer and much tougher Peter Lynn MarkII buggies, could you or Nigel confirm what size axle bolt was it that broke?
The original 12mm or the intermediate (but still too small) 15mm?
The new MarkII buggies have 20mm bolts (or stub axles = stronger still!), and to date I have not heard of a bolt failure issue on a new buggy since its release over a year ago now.

Joel,
I have put a video together of the event, 11 megs worth plus still pics. Pics in current form 30megs, though will compact well once I set jpeg quality down a bit. The video resolution is not that great but there are some funny bits and especially if you turn the volume up and listen to the holering. So the pics I can put in my gallery, but I suspect the 11meg video will not get through. I can just put the vid on youtube and post the link. How do you prefer to receive the data?
Thanks,
Norman Freund

Here are some vids I strung together on the day. The resolution is not the best (will try and borrow my wife's cam the next time), but hey the action has it's funny parts as well as the commentary from the participants. You have to turn up the volume to hear this. The bird sounds in the back ground are a classic too (sounds faaarrrrqqqqqqqq, yea really). Don't know what bird it is, but I think it was trying to tell us some thing.

Looks like everyone was having fun there ... and working it a little bit :D
And yup ... it was your kite I was calling the "Norminator" (Hope you don't mind) .... gotta ring to it don't ya reckon. It looks good in the sky ! And there is something about making things yourself :yes3: Well done mate !

It was an old 12mm giga axle Steve.
I even warned Niel twice! The're 12mm not 20mm!!
