Hey all,
been catching some epic wind lately just thought i'd shout out a few of the spots that have been firing up!
Sounds like the Puppy has made use of his new found license and is tearing apart Bellerive and Clifton beach at every available opportunity like a pirhana taking to midnight streakers hiding from the tourguide - he must be getting in quality kites as he actually let me use the Ozone last time he was down at 7mile.:yes3:
Plenty of wind about on the wkend too, with great sessions after work fri, finding 2 crazy kiwi's at 7mile on a 14m in about 20knots in boardies - 7mb has actually been going off in the middle for small waves with good wind nearly every second to third day, and having the epic session with Dave WS, Mr G, and Chris showing up Smithy & Karen and a heap of pole surfers on the Cremorne lagoon flat in about 19-24knot seabreeze!!! Oh yeah!!

gotta agree Sir Funk Lamu, excellent winds and the cremorne session was wicked and great to see a bunch of kites mixing it up with the windsurfers. been some winds heading in at cremorne also, just need to be home earlier to catch them. if i happen to do so i'll be sure to shoot a message to the sorounding crew.
Yeah I had to wave the Critical Bike Ride on Friday night, wind at Bellerive was way to good. Managed a kite from the beach around the bluff all the way to tranmere and back. Ended up in the middle of the river, the upwind gods were giving me way to much love.
Im keen for this Cremorne lagoon stuff. What weather station is best to check to pick cremorne?

i'd say the lagoon you pretty much want a reasonable tide and something heading straight in at clifton, so pretty much southerly. little bit west not to bad. i'm going to be checking the beach side tuesday and wednesday and hopefully the northerly has some east about it for a session also.

yeh true that.
I go off the airport readings most the time now, if its southerly then the lagoon is prob going too. Waves or flatwater, hard decisions! Lowtide means you got more room at 7mile and no water at lagoon. It was blowing hard North to NNW yesterday arvo here at rosetta but was a decent 20knots Southerly on 7 mile at about the same time....
Greggy D i reckon we should hit up the DEC one arvo after work, forgot you were up this way too! I'll start bringing the gear up incase...

i have often eyed off that patch of water and though t heavily about giving it a burn. have you been out there before. i guess i have just been concerned about landing and what is on the bottom when you try and get out. if you think it is acheivable i'd be willing to investigate further also.
i gotta get out of painting my damn house, this past week has been taking up to much cool time. Only one room to go.
DG
The wind is crazy how it can swing around all over the place... I will keep and i the airport then
Not a bad spot at the DEC, launched on your oval Lama and walked to the water, I got it on a south easterly coming straight under the Bowen bridge, Big tack too... Need booties for the walk though there is a couple of rocks. Apart from that i recon its not bad if you can back yourself to get upwind and trust ya lines.
See you on the water

it blows on a southerly! Would prob hit it on the northerly winds so if your eating spaghetti then you'll end up at the Dec... actually you'd end up at moorilla on a southerly so that wouldn't be all bad (just make sure you don't land at gagebrook!!)
Was it gusty Ando?
airport going now, has been all day! Get on it!
Yeah i blew out when it peaked too.. I was there watching my mates race some Jet Skis at that regatta a few weeks back (Burn a hole in your wallet them boats, Wind per a knot = $0), Got out and had a ball. I would pull the pin on the kite if i has heading in that direction.. Swim home. haha
No wheels dude, I am thinking of welding up a single wheel alloy trailer for my treadly. Does anyone know if there is such a trailer for a board and kite?? might start from scratch

Ando,
Option 1 - Drawing Board
Option 2 - i know you can get the kiddies tralors for bikes. they look pretty handy, i'm sure you could modify them to suit your needs. don't know how much one would set you back but might be an option as the have got all the geometry done for you.
option 3 - get a car
option 4 - rig up a postie bike
i have an old trail bike that i'm trying to rig out to fit all my kite kit in. not as easy as i thought. especially because i want to do it on the cheap.
Postie bike, now thats a great idea!
would need to remember to make a spot on the trailer to house the mega phone, haha
Hit up Orford, Scamander and Dolphin Sands River mouths over the weekend, plenty of tins were had...
Looking forward to the East Coast Nuts, will be a cracker.. No mega phone this time greedy!!
You guys catch some wind over the weekend?

I'm jealous. i nearly went to east coast this weekend but thought the weather would be shit. i did catch a good session at ralphs bay. never been there before and caught up with Tim, Dave WS and pete. Pretty hot there for a while. i think JK went out at 7 mile at the same time. it was all westerly so i was surprised you got some action up the coast.
good stuff
Just the usual gusty stuff we are all used to, flat water was so good.. my mate is sporting a nice cut hand after attempting to get a kayak on the plane holding onto a rope connected to my saftey!! hmm, yeah long story... would had been a cracker of a photo...

yeah the big gusts made me think twice about ralphs got some good rides at 7mile middle.
Ando you can get these sweet bike trailers my sis uses one and clocks up to 60km/h downhill with it on! Sounds like your style of riding!!:goofy: The megaphone would need to go on your handlebars too

Been another massive week down in hobart with i large number of kiters hitting the water. 3 people at 7 mile saturday, about 7 or so at the same place sunday, cremorne held 4 kiters wednesday, so most have been making use of the good strong winds.
Also don't know but sam and funky lamu, and hicko! did either of you guys notice the millions of blue bottle jellyfish that were washed up on cremorne beach? just wondering because it was pointed out to me after i got off the water. do you think they should be of concern. i know ours are sissys compared to the tropical blue bottles but im sure they can still give a very painful sting.

yep did you feel the sting later that night? I think lisa said she facesmacked down on one doing a tantrum ;)
Don't forget the 2 hardcore riders out off bellerive beach on monday arvo too! Thats 4 days kiting in a row for some...

nah i didn't get hit. i think the boots were good again. i did chop through a few big red boys. i was slightly concerned everytime i would get a big flush out down my wetsuit neck bit. if i had of seen them all i would have been paying more attention to them.

Hey Greggy,
Why yes, funnily enough I did notice the stingers and JK is right – managed a great looking face plant after catching a leading edge and pretty much ate one. Not sure that the boardies and bare legs were a great move but I was so focused on throwing a tantrum that it was only after the session that I realised I had quite a few stings!! Nothing like what my mates have to cope with in Darwin – I rocked up there for a kite session to see a 9yo boy collapse and start convulsing in front of us having been stung!
Haven’t kited now since Friday and am having serious withdrawals!! Looking forward to seeing the ever-growing crowd on the water!
Oh yeah - Puppy - how the hell did you freak out that airport security dude?? Were you trying to hitch a cheap ride to Melbs to buy more kites??
