That's not SALT looked like a soft beach landing to me.

BTW I took the 5.4 Vapor back out armed with my new body armor in a nice gentle 5ms breeze and god dam it rocks.

I don't trust my wind meter... and for some reason I find it easier to judge wind strength and direction with my back to the wind.

John - what was the weather like when the gust hit you? The only time that's happened to me are when storms are building, or a squall just before rain (In which case I'd usually fly a small kite because I don't want to dry a big one).

if you get lofted keep the kite at the zenith and it will float you back down.... well a little 3m wont provide much float.
ps zenithing the kite is the wrong thing to do to stop. as others have said. charge upwind and push it to the edge to stop.

or get a bigger peice of rag in the sky and aim to jump high. thats the most fun option.

ps i'm a landboarder not a bugger so all my advice is moot,.,.

The concept is when the forces are greater thN what is normally needed keeping yOu in the buggy ... The buckle will break seperating you from the bug.

I'v also seen a video clip of luke where his belt broke in mid air.

Not so bad playing turtle with a small light buggy but on a big heavy buggy I reckon your more likely to end up hurting.

Warm with light winds -it was the seabreeze that came in - it stayed around the 15-25knot mark for the next couple of hours. Same thing happened on a few previous nights but it didn't happen on the next night......when I was prepared and spent two hours tootling around with a 4m depower. Much to everyone's amusement. Figures!
