i got a 5m flow a few monts ago it was my 1st 4 line foil and i wanted something for at the park that would pull hard and be a heap of fun i was dissapointed with it it dose have some good points to iy 1st that handels r cheap and narsty just some pvc pipe that r covered for a 5m kite it realy dont have much power and is very slow to flynow i only use it when i have mates out with me and they want a go being that it is slow its good as a 1st 4 line foil and it socks up the gusts wellalso being that the pull of the kite is low for its size is good for 1st timer it dose fly well and easy to turn and will relaunch well bachwards seems to be well made and the kite killers that came with the kite r good better than what iv seen on more expensive kites i have a 3m crossfirethat is much faster pulls harder more responsive and a lot more funso foe me the 5m flow gets a thumbs down even as a 1st 4 line it became boring way to fast for my liking and have had mates who have it down with the flow in 5 mins and never and any experince with kites and they much rather the 3m cr4ossfire after about 10 mins :(

Depends what you are looking for I guess.

I'm a beginner to intermediate power kiter and buggier and I love the Flow (I'm also middle aged and not trying to kill myself :D )

It is very very stable and predicatable, so is forgiving of my mistakes when I am in a buggy.

It has plenty of grunt above 15 knts. Yes it's a bit slower and has lower performance in lighter air than some of the comparable sized higher aspect ratio kites out there - but that's what I expected - in fact that is what I wanted.

For people at my lower level of skill it is a perfect fit. If people are more advanced go for something like a Blade or Crossfire.

    cheers

as i said it is good to start with but i very quickly got board of it but yes very predictable and forgiving im only 30 and not trying to kill my self but found the crossfire much more funin both light and strong winds and the handeld on the flow r cheap craplike any kite it comes down to what u like where u fly what your looking for from the kite for me its still not the kite i hoped it would be and find the crossfire more fun has more power and faster

I have not tried the Flow 5m^2 but have flown my son's 3m Flow several times both static and with the landboard. My son loves his 3m and I must admit I like it too. Mic, what vehicle are you on? Landboard or buggy? When on a landboard some times it's actually nice to have kite that is not too crazy especially when you are starting out.

iv been on a landboard buggy and just static and i realy dont like the flow at all the 3m crossfire i have pulls so much harder in all wind and is so much faster and i find it more predicable more so with stronger wind but still in the light stuff as well for the price of the 5m flow it realy was dissapointing thats what i found and now it dont come out intill i have someone just starting and give them a go on that 1st i have a heap of kites from the jazz through to the qoantum pro and 13m rev2 surf kite and a sig rev almost to many but the flow is the 1st to stay at home when im going out i am a little full on and the flow dont go with that very well like i was out on the 13m rev in 25 30 knots with a broken ankle so i dont mine it cranking when the wind is there

Sorry you seem so disapointed with the Flow Mick. As I said when I reviewed the 5m Flow it is definately a beginner kite and as you say it does a good job as a 1st kite. The Flow is alot lower aspect compared to your Crossfire, the way they generate power is different so you are going to notice a huge difference when flying them side by side.

Can't really comment on the what the Standard Ozone Handles are made from (don't have any with me) but I can assure you they have stood the test of time. Ozone have been using these handles for 4+ years and I haven't known one pair to snap yet I also find them pretty comfy.

Again mate, sorry to hear that you outgrew your Flow so fast. As you have found there are definately gruntier kites out there but not everyone is confident starting out there.

Best thing to do if you have outgrown it would be to wack it in the For Sale section. Being a current model kite you will still get good money for it and shouldn't have a problem moving it. That way you can upgrade to something like a 4.9 Blade IV. If you like your Crossfire you will LOOOOOVE the Blade IV ;)

    Mick,

I surprised you brought a Flow after owning a Crossfire, the Crossfire as you said is quite grunty and the Flow is listed as a beginner kite. If your looking for a larger higher aspect kite with some grunt and lift, I'm selling a 5m Haka. It's fun, grunty and has plenty of lift when required. Also have some lower aspect kites for more stability but have plenty of pull too.

    If interested PM me.

I have flown the flows. While I personally dont like the kite, they do have their place in people quivers. With the kite being stable, it is great for people that dont want to get hurt when whey first grab hold of a kite. They are a bigginers kite so they are not a kite you would expect much from.

For someone that has never flown a power kite before, they are a good way to feel the power and learn to control a kite before moving on to something that is going to spank you the first time you fly it. Also, first time in a buggy you want a kite that is not going to do much damage to yourself or other people. A kite like the flow, has contant pull accross the window.

This is a review of the flow so I am not going to talk about other kites here but for someone that is just starting out in Kite flying, the flow is a good option, but will not stay in your quiver as a regular kite for long. I would look around at other options as well.
