OK this is my first attempt at a vid! It was shot by my two daughters (they are 8 and 11) using a couple of Panasonic digital cameras. And it is my first attempt at editing! So be kind! It is a bit wobbly at times but should give you an idea what it is like where I fly and buggy.

Lake Walyungup is a salt lake which is part of Rockingham Lakes Regional Park. It usually has clean winds from any direction. On the day this was filmed it was gusty and variable! The kite is an Ozone Flow 5m and the buggy a Peter Lynn Comp xr+.

Great looking spot. Your girls did a far, far better job of filming than my wife did when I handed her the camera for some video (shhhhhh.......) Looks like you might be needing a trailer to take some passengers along.... :D

    Thanks guys for the feedback.

It is a great location and only five minutes from home so can usually get there at least once a week. The only people I have to share it with are model aircraft enthusiasists and they are restricted to one area! And dog walkers, the dog logs can be annoying!

That is one cool spot and great video.

I'm in Bunbury and head off to Perth every now and again. Have you got a map showing how to access that particular location. How lucky are you - It looks so amazing.

Last question, what sort of wind speeds do you normally get there?

    Hi Bob,

There is a car park and gate through on Safety Bay Road, the winds are clean from any direction but I think it is best with an easterley or westerly and are usually pretty consistant. I use willy-weather for the wind forecast (use Rockingham as the location). I have tried to attach a couple of images one is a map, the other is my course tracked during one session.

If you are up this way and want some company give me a shout, I will sometimes get there on a Friday arvo, but usually Saturday arvo and/or Sunday morning.

    see you out there

    Mark

If the images dont work PM me with your email addy and I can email them?

    Hi Mark

Thanks for the details. From the GPS track, it looks like there is plenty of room out there. Is the gate easy to find? and do you have an approx distance from one of the intersections?

    thanks

If you are coming on the freeway from the south, get of at Safety Bay Road and go left (west) and the small car park is 14 km from the freeway (through Baldivis), if you get to Warnbro station you have gone to far! There is a small gate at the back of the car-park, which only opens about 50-60cm to stop motorbikes etc.

Since the last video I posted has gone walkabouts, here is another from today

There wasn't much wind, so I was trying to fly an 8.6 Reactor II, while it was trying to fly me. I have the kite high most of the time because otherwise the kite just wants to keep going faster, and that buggy is too small to stop it. After one OBE and another near thing last week I was not game to push my luck. Maybe next time I will harness up and man up.

Disclaimer: The videographer insisted that I include the screw ups, but the wind was being difficult on occasions.

If you can get consistent wind those low wind big kite days are great, zooming along on just a sniff of wind.

Yes harness up, it's not such a leap , particularly those low wind days. It will lower your anchor point centre of gravity making it actually harder to OBE.

In my experience people get hurt using small kites on big wind days, so just be sensible.

Make use of those light wind days, light wind and a big kite you will learn how to make the best power out of the kite.

Harness will help you get the power to the buggy more efficiently.

    Nice video

I agree with Clive and goz, I love lighter wind days with big kites. But then I'm not chasing speed, just height, so I don't need the big winds.

Definatly harness up next time. I know that the confidence takes a hit after an obe, but sacking up and getting back into it is the quickest way to get the confidence back.

Nice kite by the way. New?

I tried using a harness last week, but there was barely wind to keep the kite in the air and I needed more freedom to use my arms. Yesterday started out the same so I never bothered to put the harness on, but the wind picked up just a little and it changed the way the kite behaved completely.

    That kite was a demo.

[Edit] i.e. it was a demo before I bought it.
