I made these for my buggy and they have been working great, so I thought that I would make some for others if anybody is interested.

    Buggy Seatbelt: $80 +postage

Made with an aircraft seat belt buckle, standard seat belt webbing, heavy duty winch webbing and velcro.
The buckle is a lift flap quick release, so it will not jam up with sand like an ordinary car seat belt buckle and the thicker webbing is used so that the adjustment will not slip and come loose when in use. All seams are double or triple stitched for strength.
The attachment straps are best suited to a Peter Lynn or Flexifoil buggy with side rail padding. However I can make them to suit other diameter side rails.

Updated design now available with an optional "Weak Link" (see picture below)
The weak link is incorporated into the side rail attachment.
The idea behind the weak link is that in the event of an accident the plastic link will break and free you from the buggy so that you are not traped underneath it, however still being strong enough to hold you in the seat under normal use.
The weak link is replaceable, with velcro openings and only takes about 30 seconds.
The weak link, if wanted, will be included in the cost of the standard belt, with 2 spare replacement weak links also supplied.

    Footstraps: $40 +postage

Made with 25mm webbing, heavy duty canvas (for wear), velcro and stainless steel bolts.
The footstraps are length adjustable, to suit different sized shoes.
Suitable for Peter Lynn or flexifoil buggy.
The straps can also be hung below the footpegs and used as heal straps

I wouldn't rush down, the beach is a mess at the moment. Give it a couple of weeks and it should be all good... so long as this rain and flooding stops.

I'v had a question about the plastic clip (tri-glide) on the seatbelt and if it's a weak point in the belt.
The answer is, that it is only there to stop the extra webbing from flapping around in the wind and it doesn't carry any load.

Nice work, Andy. How does the lapbelt attach to the siderails?

For buggies with side rail padding, like my peter lynn or the big buggy I sold to clive, I use 3 layers of velcro and webbing to attach the belt to the buggy.

For buggies without side rail padding I would make the belt with a single loop of webbing that would need to be slid up over the side rails as the buggy is put together. This is because the webbing and velcro staps used in the other belt would be too short and could possible slip or come undone.

seat belt arrived today, nice looking unit.
I hung just one side off a suspended carabiner and hung all my weight from it, it never even looked like budging, so the load capacity has to be well in excess of a couple hundred plus kilos easy. ( you ain't going to break it)
Stitching is extremely well done, through double layers of thick belting and in a manner you see on proper seatbelts.
Catch mechanism is simple and would take a lot of use and sand wouldn't stuff it up, plus it's easy to clean as there is no hidden components.
An extra strap is stitched for a quick release, and with the design you could make it right or left handed. Short term thinking is to have kite release on one side and seat release on the other
I plan on using it on the big buggy in the short term..... But it also fits the little one too :clapping: hmmm .......jumping perhaps

All in all extremely good value..... Most happy with it.

@John. I didn't get a chance to post the belt off today, got stuck at work. But I will definatly get it posted tomorrow.

@clive. Are you using the staps on the foot pegs as foot staps (over the top) or heel straps? I originaly made them as heel straps, but either way I guess.

Heelstraps, but i need to play with the adjustment, I just haven't got around to it yet.
I think the new ones you are making are a bit stiffer, which would make them sit better.

I got a prototype version.... Will tinker with them to see if I could stiffen them up

Nice work, Andy :good: Just been hanging me and the buggy from your lapbelt - the velcro is easily up to the job. Very nice stitching - you must have a very good sewing machine to do that neat of a job on such heavy webbing. Did you drill some holes in the buckle to get the red release strap sewn in there? Some clever sewing there - I can just imagine broken needles flying everywhere if I tried that. Perfect fit straight out of the bag too. Excellent workmanship and excellent value. :clapping:

Wow john I'm actually surprised that the Velcro could hold you up with the buggy. It was never designed as a hotwire setup, only ever to take the weight of the buggy
Yeah, the top flap on the buckle now has 4 small holes in it (less the 1/8inch) and the release is hand sewn on to the buckle. I did this just to make sure that the release is nice and easy to find in a hurry

Funny that you say about the brocken needles, I usually break a couple on every belt.
My machine isnt anything special, it's the same one that I used to sew my buggy seat. Just a 30 year old janomy. I do treat it well though and never run it at top speed through thick material.

Now that you mention it, I'm trying to figure out just how much weight was on the strap and how much was on the harness..... I'm not quite sure. I rigged up a 3 to 1 pulley system...strapped in and hauled everything off the ground. Belt is just above the harness which comes up tight against it - belt certainly has all of the buggy weight but yes, perhaps most of my weight was on the harness. Velcro never crept or gave any indication of moving so I wouldn't be surprised if it actually could hold everything.

The old Janomy is a good machine. I've done similar work on a 25 year old Brother cheapie - I nearly always have to grab the wheel by hand to get it through a few layers of webbing. Was always tempted by a walking foot industrial machine like a Sailright Ultrafeed but could never justify spending a grand to make up the odd strap or harness.

    Like the red strap....nice touch.
