    Awe shucks, she's beautiful.

Have you had a chance to ride it yet?

What length and width did it end up being?

    142x43.5.

    yep rode it today

it did some things i wasn't expecting!....

anyway. it was dead onshore mush. started odd around 12 knots and built to 20 over the session.

    I used my 15m speed 3.

I almost flagged the session away because my normal TT is useless in 12 knots. Not this thing i was up and cranking upwind like 20 knots. WTF? its a light wind weapon!.I had not expect that from a very flexible wave style board. fowards cranked upwind like a maniac and held rediculous amounts of power with the wind spiked to 18-20. (18-20 on the speed is seriously powered).

Backwards was a little squirelly. i put this down to the monster center fin. My first thought is that i want to downside the middle fin to 6cm for less weird backwards action. But i'll ride the 10cm fin for a while in better surf condtions first. Going backwards i had to lean back a bit more as i was more foward on the board.

Slapping through the chop is buttery smooth. and i mean buttery!. Probably due to the shape and the flex of the board. Lnding jumps equally as smooth.

I didn't really get a chance to surf any waves properly as it was onshore and the speed 3 does not do down wind at all.

All in all it went way better than i expected. Hopefully tomorrow will be more cross on and we will get some wave action.

I suspect for steep wave riding i'll need more rocker in the front. The less rocker than expected probably accounts for better light wind performance?

It does have a strange undulating feel rolling over small white wash? maybe the flex?... i don't know.

Thanks for the write up Plummet. Can't quite spot it from the pics, but is the board symmetrical or is it asymmetrical being wider at the centre fin end and narrower at the other end more like the traditional surf boards?

Interesting with the riding through chop. Just wondering whether it is the rocker and/or flex of the board. How does the rocker/flex compare to your other twin tip that does not handle the chop so well? I notice the ends are nicely rounded, perhaps this favors the chop better.

I suppose with the increased flex you might even be able to fine tune the board control by twisting it with your feet, have you tried this? I've often toyed with the idea of super twisting flex, ie borrowing from the ripsticks to see what that can do.

    Norman.

Its 2cm wider at the TT end than the surf end. Yes the curved tips give good chop performance.

    YEeeeeeeeeha!
Just finished an insane 30 to 40knot 6m reo storm session. dodging trees and logs in the water and me to double me dumpers.

squirellyness is all gone. i just needed to adapt my technique a bit.

man this board likes to be riden HARD! the harder the stupider the better.

i almost got into a barrel too ! got slapped on the back by the white wash as i popped out! yeah....

you can tell its windy wind my little 6m is floaty!!. thats about 35+ knots. anyway i came in hard and fast plenty of times and landing was buttery smooth.... oh yeah.

very pleased. the more i ride the more i like.

Nice looking mutant build plummet :good:

Something to chew over build wise - a single concave home made equivalent to the ocean rodeo mako (2011). I don't own one personally, but have spent some time on a mates 140 powered and in light wind in surf and there's something special about it. The most cushiony floaty light feeling mutant i've ever ridden, carves like a dream and generally just such a laid back board to cruise on.

    Keep up the projects :good:

Bottom picture i'm guessing is of the 2012 board (but don't quote me  )

concave is about 6mm tapers to flat 1" from the edge of the booard and also taperes to flat at the tips. i borrowed that technology from the brokite boys!.

not that you can put a price on home made personallybresearched and developed.boards but what do you reckon it would of set you back plummet?

allso am I correct in seeing that one end (back) actually curves into the water and the front curves out of it? thats fucking awesome if it is hahaha would make going upwind insane are all mutant boards like that? why was I told to stay away from mutants and only get a twintip?

when I win the lotto I want a big closed foil kite and a surfboard to have a go at wave rideing but maybe ill add a mutant to that :)

    Hey Plummet, like your work.
i only support my kite kid not a rider, but have an intrest in design and build now in boards.
built my farrier 8.2 tri from plans so have a fair idea about resins foam wood fabrics, the chemestry involved and fairing.
one of our friends has a OR like pictured and you would think he wrote your text. so more intrest in design from me as with the mutant style.
have an old wave board 2.2M x .47 thruster in the shed to attack and recycle, there is a repaired fin slash and two obvious fabric stresses across the bottom between foot positions.
my idea, lay up uni and fair to create concave thru this contact area, while i'm at it plug and reinforce to make straps an option, ? what point would you use here the old waxed patch on the front foot , i'd imagine there would be a difference between a wave or kite rider where the balance lies or just go front free. ??? all free, while i have sticky fingers bedding in mounts would be easy just in case.
anyway, nothing tried is no gain keep up the R & D, regards ray

kozzie. hardcore down the line wave riding is better on a surfboard. But if your like me and enjoy a good boost on the way out and upwind wave ride on the way in then a mutant is a good option. Not as cool as strapless on a SB but hey i don't care about coolness. I see dudes on the beach locally ride a sb when they want to surf waves and a TT when they want to boost. why not just use a mutant and do both at the same time?
how much did it cost me? hard to say beacuse i've bought enough materials to make 3 kite boards, 4 skateboards and a landboard. but that cost is less than buying 1 brand new twin tip...... So i think the mutant material cost if i split it out of the bulk buy is around $200 to $250 nzd for board only.

Thrill neck. are you talking about adapting an old surfboard and adding bindings.? i'm not sure about the foot placement on a surfboard re kiting a surfboard. as i don't surf without a kite.
