I know that the board being used in landboarding is a bigger version of skateboard with larger wheels which is capable of running with ease in lands, but i wonder if we can use skateboards in landboarding?

I think Norm has used a longboard with a kite.
Theoretically, if its the right surface, right conditions and got the right gear - you could use a kite to propel you on most anything.
I've heard of people using skimboards and small kites to skim around on.
You'd probly want to strap some form of bindings onto the skateboard tho.

Here are 2 incarnations of longboards with bindings that i've made.

The freebord bindings are cool - as they are only half bindings.

Wasn't me BakersDozen, but I've seen Henry at Altona do it. Was very amusing. He was doing it on a concrete foot path, a narrow path at that. So the wind direction had to be exactly right, otherwise it's a case of jump off and bail out. Quite often you need to be able to resist a fair amount of sideways pull, virtually imposible on a skate board. Odds are you could also break the board as they are not designed to take such heavy landings or side pull.

The closest I ever got to this was riding standard inline skates + my NASA kites. As soon as you hit the grass or dirt those small wheels just dig in and you stop, but the kite keeps on going  :D .

For light wind days, it's doable.

just as I thought, using skateboards in doing landboarding can only be useful in concrete surfaces. the wheels are to small to be used in land surfaces. :good:

A couple of years ago I saw a video of a little girl with a 2 line kite tied to the handle bars of a razor scooter and getting towed along. Looked like very cool way to get around

The first pic is a standard skateboard deck, that i re-positioned the truck mounts on. Used bear trucks and drifter wheels - such an awesome combination :derisive: I bought a set of freebord bindings and mounted them. They're awesome cause they are only half bindings, but do everything you want without being too bound in.

Second is a GI Flight mountainboard that I used the same truck and wheel combo on. It obviously already had Talon bindings on it.

I'm currently shaping a new deck, that i've pressed, for this setup. Flat deck with a minor concave. Should be most pimp :clapping:

Note, that these haven't or are not intended to be used with a kite. They are my daily transport to and from work. I like the bindings for jumping off and up gutters etc. And to pull the occaisional nose roll or 180 :D

    Hi all

I've done a bit of kiting with a standard skateboard and more recently with a long board but only of paved surfaces.

You don't need much of a kite to get going on these so I use a small 3.5m trainer kite with relatively shortly lines.

It's perfect for really gusty winds and you can get a fair old speed up. My next step up would be to try it out with a freebord. They look like so much fun.

There is a video I saw recently with some guys using more standard de-power kites with long boards on what looked like a disused airstrip. They were pretty bloody good. I'll try and find it.

i have kited on a longboard before. crazy indeed. i prefer the landboard on the tarmac and then if things start getting interesting you can blaze in the grass on the sides.

bob a feeboard would be manic with a kite. i don't think it would be that enjoyable.

From what I can gather, this is not uncommon in Germany....

From here: [urlhttp://www.born-kite.de/html/nasa_star_2.html][/url] Google Chrome does an OK job of translating it. There should be an English version of this site in the near future. 128 Euro's for the 4m works out to $149 Au plus about $20 postage which takes 9-10 days. (kite only - they fly fine on handles or you could pick up a cheap bar at one of the local haunts).

Plummet, surely a freebord would work with a small kite. Imagine the drifting slides.

I actually find this video a bit hilarious and cute, lol..but I think it's fun and worth trying, smaller kites and I think much easy to use and control compared to the real landboarding equipment.
