    Hi All,

Below are the details for the Speed Week 2012 meet. Any questions, please ask them in this discussion topic.

    Where is it happening?
We meet at Sandy Point, a small town based on the coast of Waratah bay. It is approximately 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne.

    Event Agenda
Saturday 3rd November: Arrival / Casual Flying
    Sunday 4th November: BBQ Night
    Monday 5th November: Casual Flying
Tuesday 6th November: Departure / Casual Flying
Wedneday 7th November: Possible Extended Stay
Thursday 8th November: Possible Extended Stay

    Mini Golf
In the event that we may not get ideal winds for kiting across all days a Mini Golf Tournament will be held as backup with prizes.

    Accommodation
You can book yourself some accommodation through Extreme Kites or organise your own.
    $139 Singles (Single Bed)
$239 Couples (Double / Queen Bed)

This includes 3 Nights / 4 Days accommodations, and BBQ dinner + entry in to competitions and prizes. Accommodation is limited and we operate on a first paid first served basis. If you are booking early and would have preference to those who you share a house with please let us know via email in advance and we will do our best to make those arrangements.

    Extended Stay
It is possible to organise if we have enough individuals to either extend the stay until after Tuesday, if this interests you just mention in the discussion topic. There is an extra charge for the Extended Stay and is dependent on how many individuals decide to stay longer.

    Bookings and Payments
The final day to book & paid by is September 30th 2011, be aware this does not mean there will be accommodation available up until this point. We usually fill all houses well before this date! And a friendly reminder for those who say "save me a spot i'm coming," if you haven't paid i'm not saving you any spot, I will simply nod and smile. Your reservation is only secured once you have made payment. Credit card payments can now be accepted to secure your spot.

    Cancellations
All cancellations and requests must be made before September 30th 2011, any later than this and we will not issue a refund unless we can fill your spot.

    Optional Registration
If you are not staying with us and have organised your own accommodation there is an registration fee of $15 if you wish to attend the BBQ. This will register you with Extreme Kites and keep you in the loop and include entry to our BBQ dinner night.

    How to Book
Please email to Joel@WindCube.Com.Au and a form will be sent to you in return.

    Insurance and Local Guidelines
We advise all attendees to have registered 3rd party insurance when attending any meet. All Extreme Kites registered individuals will receive a map outline of local kiting rules and regulations for the event via email.

    Have Questions?
If you have any questions you are welcome to ask here in the topic or send an email to Joel@WindCube.Com.Au

    Notes:
    Rates & Price Reductions
Accommodation rates and prices have been reduced up to $15 per booking.

Chris, Congratulations on the camper purchase. If you are planning on staying at the Sandy Point caravan park you probably need to book soon as they don't have much space over Cup weekend but it's close to the beach!

Just rang my insurance guy. He's trying to hunt sometheng up for us.
He thinks you might be able to include public liability for kite related incidents under your house and contents insurance.
I'll let you know what he finds out.

So far the insurance guy has found a house and contents policy with Aliance that covers accidental injury/damage caused by sporting equipment and he checked to make sure that includes kiting. He said that providing your kiting activities are for "recreation" not racing, you're covered. The premium, including the usual house and contents stuff is $1500.00 p/a. This would obviously vary from person to person depending upon the value of your house and contents. I'm gonna ring around some more insurance companies to see if any do a better price, but at least we know now that you can get insurance for kiting activities.
By the way, he said that if you're racing you're not covered unless the race organiser has taken out insurance on your behalf, otherwise civil law would apply ie. law suits all round for you, the race organiser and anyone else with any involvement in the incident.
I asked if this meant no "recreational racing" eg. I yell "race you to the end of the beach" and he said that is recreational flying. Racing means organised racing with start and finish line, trophies, marshals etc. (not a legal definition, just me paraphrasing)

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong nocando, but I thought queensland had a kite association, which if you joined gave you the coverage ( somewhere in the dark recesses of my memory)

On a more important note...... The online shop from whence which one can order the shirts etc. A LINK PLEASE as the one I found doesn't work.

Don't rely on QKS for insurance. I have a very polite letter declining my membership application :( :(

So because people kiteboard they're now automatically "wankers." Riiightt....

Nocando wrote:and land kiters gets sweet FA

Actually we will be making a few announcements at Speed Week, one of them is insurance for Land and Water kiters through a new entity.

Land Kiters can't organise themselves, or can't be arsed organising themselves. Those "water wankers" as you refer to them, the secretary of the national association is also a moderator here and a land kiter. He takes a whole day a month out, and then also once a year has to take time off work to fly interstate for the national bodies meeting. Not to mention the amount of month to month work on top of that he has to work through. Compare this to the "land kiters" whom with a room of 40 odd people were asked for "2 volunteers" to put 2 hours a month aside, nobody could be assed. Pulled out all the excuses like "just to much on my plate at the moment" or "nah not me." It's actually most of these same ones that hoot and whinge about no insurance for them, add the Domenic & George legal case that goes to court in March (if either party doesn't push it further back) and nobody is willing to stick their neck out and assist.

Land Kiters will get more than "Sweet FA" when they get their shit together, or in this case we have gotten their shit together for them. However, we won't be insuring wankers of the water or land variety. The whole policy is aimed that if you fuck up, you pay for the privilege of re-insuring instead of riding the backs of others as has happened to existing bodies and thrown them to the wall.

There is so much I would like to bleet about the old policy that everyone "thought" they were covered by, and the degree by which we were mislead as we were only ever shown a certificate of currency, however i'll save that for another day and another thread.

Clive, just because someone says "you're covered" don't believe a word of it unless you get a copy of the policy sent to you personally. I'm not sure what their arrangement is in QLD, what I can say is that here in VIC for years we thought we were covered, when it turns out that the cover was incredibly limited and not on the basis of what it was advertised to us as. The new policy is effective nationally regardless of state. If you're at Speed Week at the BBQ we will be laying it out there first for people to get a first look, if not, then sometime shortly after that it will work it way on to here.
