I recently purchased a 13m PL Scorpion and thought a review was in order.

Overall build quality and presentation of the kite was immaculate, the kite colours I purchased were (Green, Black, White & Yellow) rather striking I think. The kite came in a blue, white and black backpack which was of high quality. The package also included an instructional DVD which in my humble opinion needs to be updated to cover the Scorpion setup (only covers the basics of depower kites). Overall a good DVD but really just a promotional DVD for PL kites. The kite came with several instructional booklets to help you setup/launch the kite which confused me to no end (Note this is my first depower kite so confusion is expected to some degree) and from what I have seen it’s not only me who has trouble with these types of kites in the beginning when it comes to setting them up and getting them off the ground.

My trouble really started when I tried to get the kite off the ground. As this is a kite that needs to be inflated before it will fly correctly I really didn’t know what the correct amount was before it would fly. I should have guessed it right away when the tips of the kite came together at launch that it wasn’t inflated enough. Secondly the depower loops on the back of the kite had to be adjusted to enable the kite to get off the ground. At fist the kite would just site there about 1 foot off the ground and not won’t to drive forward. Once I adjusted the Bridal settings a little she sprung into life and rocketed up to the zenith. Wow this thing is really stable, just let go of the bar and it will just sit there.

Overall performance of the kite once fully inflated and tuned in was amazing. Even with the trim straps set to full depower and in about 10-15 knots of wind it had plenty of lift even for my weight which is about 85kg. The kite moved thru the air quite easily and was very responsive to bar movements. This kite with its massive amounts of lift would be great for Land boarding, buggying & kite surfing.
