Backcountry Snowkiting area Best on a SW wind after a front. This is a serious backcountry area, with variable snow conditions, snowbridges, rocky areas, and is generally only accessed by people on cross country skis, Alpine touring skis or snowshoes. Bring a helmet, survival gear and kites that can handle gusts easily Head up the valley above the "Eagles nest" chirlift top station at Thredbo resort, follow the pole line toward the "kosciuscko view" lookout (about 1 km), then head North into the basin. Snowpole lines continue to Charlottes pass and Rawson pass. There are many other spots on the main range, but this one is best for starters. Here is a google map link:
