Hi all,

Just picked up a PL composite axle and thought a quick review was in order.

First things first, there has been a lot speculation about the composition of the axle, from what I can see the axle is made of some sort of composite material but not carbon fiber, a fairly thick piece at that. Wall thickness is about 5mm. Please don’t quote me on this I didn’t have a ruler handy.   Overall the axle is very solid and there is nothing loosely attached that that could easily come off in midsession.  The axle is split up of 2 distinct sections. The main composite rod extending the full length of the axle and the metal sleeves / end caps that interface with the rest of the buggy.  The composite rob has no joins that see which should make for a very strong wheel base and provide a very nice spring to absorb some of those hard landings. The metal pieces of the axle are closely sleeved over the composite rod, there are no gaps between the metal components and the carbon rod. Securing the metal to the carbon is done with a combination of gluing , clamping and on the end caps a Alan key holding down the end caps for a little extra assurance.   I have included a image on the standard PL short axle after about 2 months of jumping and the new axle, once i have put a little time in on the comp axle I’ll update the image to see if the comp axle has bend in any way!

As yet I haven’t been able to road test the axle but will do so this weekend and update the review once i have had a session.
