Anyone ever tried kite fishing?

What are the best kites to use?

What gear do you need?

Yip , all the time.

I get some of my gear of this guy

If you are in Oz I think you are only allowed one hook and check with your local fisheries office about kite fishing.

In NZ we allowed 25 hooks

I have to set ups one is with a drum winch that has 2km of line on it.

The other is a boat rod and reel with 600m of spectra a smaller kite with 5 hooks

Does it work well? Thinking of giving it a go in Tassie.

It sure does. It takes a bit to get use to how to set the kite for different winds and currents but thats half the fun

Google "kite fishing " and look in images  . So many different set ups

Onto it ordered stuff already. Have a look at caughtinflight.com.au got all the stuff you need. And relatively cheap. @igeighty yep off shore winds. So no buggies cause wind offshore lets go kite fish Doug.

If the wind is cross or cross offshore, I use two polystyrene ball about 50mm dia. in a stocking and hook them on the kite wing tip to steer the kite offshore.

If the wind is offshore I put the floats in the centre of the tail edge, so if the kite hits the water it will stay on the surface .

Also I use a sky hook kite most of the time. It hooks on to he main line about 10m down from the main kite. So the main kite lifts up and the sky hook is the spinnaker and pulls the line out the sea.

Tried it today at bay of fires in Tassie. No fish but good fun if you like flying kites. Had a heap of interest from other fishermen. Mostly laughing at me.🤔

This sounds like it could be real big fun to try out. Would love to hear from more people and their experiences with kite fishing. Or maybe someone will post when and where one could have a look at it in action.

      G'day,
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum .
Trying to source name and supplier of these gizmos...
Have tried searching: cleat, double cleat, sheave cleat, shock lock, shock cord cleat .
They are used often on shock cord or any small diameter cord to temporarily tie off / lock the cord.
This one has a "floating" cam lock wheel.
Prefer plastic / nylon if available.

      Cheers,
      Mark
