Currarong is good if the wind is from the NE. Let's plan on meeting there at this stage and we can see closer to the day what the wind will be doing

Hello. newbie Q bout depower kites-

If that comes with a bar it seems like a great price to me (if it's AU) - looks pretty clean/crispy. And a great kite to learn on. Same age as you, but quite a bit heavier at 85kg. For me the absolute best kite to learn on has been the PL Phantom 1. The auto zenith works spectacularly (you let go of the bar, it makes it's way right to the top of the window), you can let go of the bar and the kite just sits there - great when I was snow kiting and figuring out how to get into bindings, or when trying to balance on your ATB to start. It's also super smooth with power, so you don't get jerked off your board when you're figuring out how to do starts. Since you're 55kg, I'd say a 9m would be a good size if you can find one. My best advice (I started land boarding last year) - if you're riding on sand and there are soft spots (or water), keep your kite high. I just relearned that one recently when a wave grabbed me as the tide was coming in The splash was spectacular. Granny wheels are also a great option if the sand near you is soft and you find yourself plowing in a lot.

Hello. newbie Q bout depower kites-

Hey @alison melia, If you haven't found a kite yet, I came across this one on Gumtree which looks good. The price is a bit strong but it's been up since August last year so the owner might be open to an offer and to posting it. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bruce/snow-sports/ozone-access-kite-6m/1191819253

    Pansh Genesis 2019

The Genesis is the depower version of the Adam which you already have. Apart from the colour change I don't think the 2019 version is very different from the previous model so you'll know basically how it flies. Unless you're looking specifically for a medium/low AR depower in a smaller size why not have a look at the Blaze III instead? Open cell so I wouldn't use in on water but then I don't think I'd be using a Genesis on water either, even if Pansh says you can. The Blaze has been out long enough for the wrinkles to be ironed out and does a good job of impersonating the Summit but at a fraction of the cost. The Genesis 8m is the same price as the Blaze III 8m at US$139 but with an AR of 4.9 vs 3.7 for the Genesis, it'll be a lot more exciting for somebody who knows how to fly. The Blaze also has the upgraded 5th line safety system borrowed from the latest Ozone foils which is really good (Genesis has traditional) and they're also doing the same 50% deal for footage/reviews on the Blaze. Food for thought . . . .

    Yeppoon 2019

Come on @Goz!!!!! This will be my 8th year back in Yeppoon over Easter and I cant rely on you to get it done mate!!! All the previous years there has been a tropical cyclone in the week before I arrived to level the beach. Without exception. With T.C. Trevor it looks as if you ordered him a bit too far north ya mug. ……………….

    Pansh Genesis 2019

Yeh I converted a 4mtr Pansh Cerberus to depower using an Ozone speed system. I tried it in Kingston on the clay pan in 25 knots plus with some help from @Mez, but it was too gusty and not enough depower range. The centre of the leading edge was folding under and stalling it, only to reinflate after I had passed by it, which was a bit disconcerting. It had potential but I was not tweeking it those muddy conditions. It did get me to 73kmh though. Big walk of shame back with a twisted bundle of red cloth!!! I changed to my 7 mrt R1 and then could relax a bit. I'm hoping the Genisis will give me a few more ideas as the Cerberus went like hell right off the mark. I just had the power lines a bit too short.

    Pansh Genesis 2019

Sadly I've no experience of this kite. After modifying my 8m Adam to depower successfully, I'd love a go on one of these. Maybe some time in the future I'll treat myself, sadly paragliding has taken over...ooops.

Had a quick session on Tuesday

Hey Tiger, You are correct my good sir. I believe you mentioned that you had your honeymoon close by in Rye? I do love this beach, although its less than ideal for speed runs. You have to get the power down straight away if you want to go fast or you'll run out of room quick, so gale force winds at a minimum. The kite is a Genetrix Hydra 7m, a great storm kite yet pulls strongly from 35kph. The canopy is extremely flat, held rigid by a bridle that connects directly to the struts. This makes it possible for the kite to be that flat. The canopy stiffens also as the wind increases but relaxes as gusts hit. There's so much depower that you could easily stall the kite in gale. Perhaps the only LEI you could ever hope to hot launch in high wind and live. On the downside , heavy bar pressure, its not for everyone. I do miss the light bar of the 7m Cabrinha Crossbow for this reason, another great kite for high wind, although it tops out earlier than the Hydra. Its a shame they stopped making that kite and to add insult to injury there's now no production of the Genetrix Hydra either. They've decided to temporarily postpone production.

Great video and that’s not only a great top speed but some impressive acceleration as well. Is that Camber Sands? What kite were you flying as a matter of interest?

    NSW and Canberra Buggy Meet

I could definite do Sat 6 April at the moment and possibly the weekend.
  24. Had a short session yesterday. The forecast looked promising, 60kph with 82kph gusts, perhaps enough wind to reach my PB, who knows. Got rolling at 10am. Tide in by 11:15am, so had to be quick. The beach was in perfect condition and I had it all to myself but the wind started to drop during the hour, and of course picks up again as the tide covers the beach. Still, I topped out at 100kph but I'm paying the price. My arm is killing me. It felt broken yesterday, like I needed a sling to put it in. Today is better though. Did not bother reaching for the trim when heading up wind and because time was against me I just ignored it. The load on my right arm was too much. I need one of those trim extensions I think. Anyway, here's hoping for better conditions next time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB9yUGw0ISg
