    Yeppoon 2019

Come on @Goz!!!!! This will be my 8th year back in Yeppoon over Easter and I cant rely on you to get it done mate!!! All the previous years there has been a tropical cyclone in the week before I arrived to level the beach. Without exception. With T.C. Trevor it looks as if you ordered him a bit too far north ya mug. ……………….

Had a quick session on Tuesday

Had a short session yesterday. The forecast looked promising, 60kph with 82kph gusts, perhaps enough wind to reach my PB, who knows. Got rolling at 10am. Tide in by 11:15am, so had to be quick. The beach was in perfect condition and I had it all to myself but the wind started to drop during the hour, and of course picks up again as the tide covers the beach. Still, I topped out at 100kph but I'm paying the price. My arm is killing me. It felt broken yesterday, like I needed a sling to put it in. Today is better though. Did not bother reaching for the trim when heading up wind and because time was against me I just ignored it. The load on my right arm was too much. I need one of those trim extensions I think. Anyway, here's hoping for better conditions next time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB9yUGw0ISg

    A hard day at work

Now I realise that small things amuse small minds, but I found a video from a mate that sums up my day at work.

    Pansh Genesis 2019

Sadly I've no experience of this kite. After modifying my 8m Adam to depower successfully, I'd love a go on one of these. Maybe some time in the future I'll treat myself, sadly paragliding has taken over...ooops.

    Best Kiting Food

Good work Southerly. I'm still rolling with no refined sugar. I'm also focusing on more veggies and less carbs in my main mean, That has trimmed a couple more kg. I'm now 75 kg at age 47, which is pretty darn good considering my racing weight in my mid 20's was 73kg. Side note there is now less kiting and more mountain biking. Mountain biking adds to aerobic fitness way more than kiting. So my endurance and general fitness is as good as it was in my 20's also. Oh yeah i'm feeling good.

But the tip looks a little soft and sticky in places, but you’d have to be nuts not to go and have a look!

    eBay & Gumtree Finds

I know those rev storage bags aren’t cheap to buy new, but $100 is asking a bit. Or maybe I’m just a cheap bastard 😄

    New Mid Season Kite releases.

Sometimes Mid Season releases go under the radar. Here are a few new releases- Duotone Juice. We have already tested this in a 15m and their claims aren't unjustified. NAISH Triad. I think the 99% of the population bit is a reflection to an advertisement they had many years ago saying "the wrong sport for 99% of the population" Naish Dash. Freestyle/freeride Ozone Amp. Ruben rides it, what more can we say? Duotone Mono Naish Boxer

    Pansh Genesis 2019

Yeh I converted a 4mtr Pansh Cerberus to depower using an Ozone speed system. I tried it in Kingston on the clay pan in 25 knots plus with some help from @Mez, but it was too gusty and not enough depower range. The centre of the leading edge was folding under and stalling it, only to reinflate after I had passed by it, which was a bit disconcerting. It had potential but I was not tweeking it those muddy conditions. It did get me to 73kmh though. Big walk of shame back with a twisted bundle of red cloth!!! I changed to my 7 mrt R1 and then could relax a bit. I'm hoping the Genisis will give me a few more ideas as the Cerberus went like hell right off the mark. I just had the power lines a bit too short.

Hey Tiger, You are correct my good sir. I believe you mentioned that you had your honeymoon close by in Rye? I do love this beach, although its less than ideal for speed runs. You have to get the power down straight away if you want to go fast or you'll run out of room quick, so gale force winds at a minimum. The kite is a Genetrix Hydra 7m, a great storm kite yet pulls strongly from 35kph. The canopy is extremely flat, held rigid by a bridle that connects directly to the struts. This makes it possible for the kite to be that flat. The canopy stiffens also as the wind increases but relaxes as gusts hit. There's so much depower that you could easily stall the kite in gale. Perhaps the only LEI you could ever hope to hot launch in high wind and live. On the downside , heavy bar pressure, its not for everyone. I do miss the light bar of the 7m Cabrinha Crossbow for this reason, another great kite for high wind, although it tops out earlier than the Hydra. Its a shame they stopped making that kite and to add insult to injury there's now no production of the Genetrix Hydra either. They've decided to temporarily postpone production.

Great video and that’s not only a great top speed but some impressive acceleration as well. Is that Camber Sands? What kite were you flying as a matter of interest?

Looking good @Northern Kites Australia, getting a bit of speed up on the down hill sections 👍

I am making my own paddle at the moment, and testing some different T handles and end-stick ends... the old grandpa walking rubber ends don't last and break apart quickly, depending on how aggressive you paddle, so I am experimenting with a mix of rubber and silicone ends. But here is a great video that shows you the technique I am learning, and yeah it's a upper chest work out. I think it's a great all-body exercise.

    First Builds

I have exactly the same machine and have now used it quite a bit for 3 years. Sewing kites is one of the least demanding things (for the machine) you can. The fabric is very thin and pretty easy to sew. The "Heavy Duty" name is probably overstated though - my machine can't make it through the seam when hemming a pair of blue jeans for example. But if kite making is the main use of the machine you don't need much. I've only ever used 3 stitches - straight, zig-zag and triple zig-zag. Probably every machine made now has many more stitches than that. So you don't have to spend a lot. A walking foot is probably a necessity, and for NPW's I would get a cording foot. This is because often you use kite line as a seam reinforcement (see Tom White's plans on kiteplans.org). This provides a very strong attachment for bridles. It is very hard to sew a a reinforcement line without one, but quite easy with one.
